# Improving your visibility

> The path from numbers to changes on your site — where you're missing, which sources assistants read, what content is missing.

Assistants with web search answer from the pages they find. To appear more often, you have to be **in the pages they
read** — on your own site or on the sites they cite. The pages below take you from "where am I losing" to "what do I
change".

## 1. Find the prompts you are losing

**Where you're missing** shows the prompts where your direct competitors appear and you don't. They are the best
targets: the assistant already recommends someone in your field, just not you. See
[Where you're missing](https://survelium.com/docs/metrics/answer-gaps.md).

Start with the prompts where you are missing on several models and where competitors appear often.

## 2. See which sources assistants read

For each prompt you lose, look at which pages the assistant cites:

- **Missing sources** — competitor pages cited in the answers where you are missing. See
  [Missing sources](https://survelium.com/docs/metrics/missing-sources.md).
- **Domains & URLs** — every site cited. If a directory, a review site or a publication shows up often, it is a place
worth being present. See [Your domain share of citations](https://survelium.com/docs/metrics/citation-share.md).
- **AI searches** — what the assistant searched for on the web. If your site doesn't answer those searches, it doesn't
make it into the answer. See [AI searches](https://survelium.com/docs/metrics/ai-searches.md).

## 3. Fix what stops assistants from reading you

Before writing new content, check that AI crawlers can read your site. In [AI traffic → Pages](https://survelium.com/docs/ai-traffic/pages.md),
a 403 or 404 served to a search crawler means a page the assistant can't cite. The usual causes: a firewall or CDN
that blocks crawlers, rules in `robots.txt`, pages moved without a redirect.

## 4. Write the missing content

- **Opportunities & Briefs** — the prompts with the weakest coverage, with the domains assistants cite instead of you,
and a brief you write the page from. See [Content](https://survelium.com/docs/guides/content.md).
- A page that is good to cite **answers the question directly** in its first lines, has concrete data (prices,
specifications, comparisons) and is easy to read without JavaScript.

## 5. Recommendations

**Recommendations** lists what to fix, found by checks rather than written by AI, and closes each item by itself when
the next check passes:

- **Site and pages** — what stops AI crawlers or weakens a page, from [Crawl Checker](https://survelium.com/docs/optimization/crawl-checker.md).
- **Comparison with cited pages** — for the prompts where you are missing from most answers, what the pages AI cites
have and yours does not. See [Comparison with cited pages](https://survelium.com/docs/optimization/page-comparison.md).

Brands that had the earlier AI analysis keep it under **Archive**.

## 6. Measure

Changes on your site show up in answers after assistants reread the pages — anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
Watch:

- [visibility](https://survelium.com/docs/metrics/visibility.md) on the prompts you worked on;
- [Used as source](https://survelium.com/docs/metrics/used-as-source.md) — whether the new page starts being cited;
- in AI traffic, whether search crawlers have read the new page ([crawler hits](https://survelium.com/docs/ai-traffic/crawler-hits.md)).

Compare over 28-day periods: individual days vary a lot.
