# Used as source

> The percentage of AI answers that cite at least one page from your site.

**"Used as source" is the percentage of AI answers that cite at least one page from your site.**

## Formula

```
used as source = answers that cite your site ÷ answers × 100
```

An answer counts once, however many of your pages it cites.

## Example

Out of 40 answers, 6 have at least one link to your site:

```
6 ÷ 40 × 100 = 15%
```

## What counts and what doesn't

| Counts | Doesn't count |
|---|---|
| Links to your domain, with or without `www` | Links to other sites that talk about you, and your subdomains (`blog.site.ro`) |
| Empty answers from Google AI Overview (they did not cite you) | Failed runs |

## How to read it

- You can be named without being cited (the model knows you, but takes its information from elsewhere) and cited
  without being named (your page is used as a source for a topic). Comparing with [visibility](https://survelium.com/docs/metrics/visibility.md)
  shows which of the two is missing.
- Don't confuse it with [your share of citations](https://survelium.com/docs/metrics/citation-share.md), which counts links, not answers.
- The [Missing sources](https://survelium.com/docs/metrics/missing-sources.md) page shows, prompt by prompt, where competitors are cited and
  you are not.

- **Workspace dashboard** (all brands) — on each brand's card.
