# Visibility

> The percentage of AI answers that name your brand.

**Visibility is the percentage of AI answers in which your brand appears.**

## Formula

```
visibility = answers that name your brand ÷ answers × 100
```

An answer counts only once, even if it names you several times.

## Example

In the last 28 days, 3 prompts received 40 answers in total from all models. 14 of them name your
brand:

```
14 ÷ 40 × 100 = 35%
```

If visibility was 30% in the 28 days before, **+5 pp** (percentage points) shows next to the number.

## What counts and what doesn't

| Counts | Doesn't count |
|---|---|
| Finished answers in the period, from the models in the filter | Failed runs |
| Empty answers from Google AI Overview (you did not appear) | Answers outside the period |
| The brand name and its variants (sub-brands) | Competitor mentions |

## How to read it

- Visibility tells you **whether** you appear, not **how**. Read it together with [average position](https://survelium.com/docs/metrics/average-position.md)
  (where you appear) and [sentiment](https://survelium.com/docs/metrics/sentiment.md) (in what tone).
- High visibility with low [share of voice](https://survelium.com/docs/metrics/share-of-voice.md) means you appear often, but next to many
  competitors.
- On a single prompt, the number comes from few answers and jumps easily: 1 of 3 means 33%.

## Where it appears

- **Dashboard** — the big number, the change and the "Brand visibility over time" chart. In the chart, each point is a day,
  a week or a month; the thin lines are the 3 most visible direct competitors.
- **Dashboard → Competitor analysis** and the "Brand visibility" donut — the same formula for each tracked
  brand. One answer can name several brands, so the percentages do not add up to 100%.
- **Prompts** — the "AI visibility" column, on each prompt.
- **Workspace dashboard** (all brands) — on each brand's card, over the last 28 days and all models.
