Questions, answered.
Why do I not see this in Google Analytics?
AI crawlers do not run JavaScript, so a tag in the page never sees them. And visitors from ChatGPT often arrive without a referrer, which Analytics counts as direct traffic. The integration runs on your server, where both are visible.
Does it slow down my site?
No. Visits are recorded after the page has gone out to the visitor and sent in batches every few minutes.
What data is sent? Is it GDPR compliant?
For AI crawlers: time, user agent, page, status code and IP, to check the crawler is genuine; crawler IPs are deleted after 30 days. For people from AI: time, the assistant's domain and the page. We never store visitors' IPs or cookies.
What happens if I block an AI crawler?
It stops reading your pages, and the assistant behind it has less to cite you with. AI traffic shows the status code each crawler received, so you see a block as soon as it happens.
Does it work on Shopify or Wix?
Yes, through a JavaScript snippet that counts the visitors AI sends you. AI crawlers are only visible to a server integration, which those platforms do not allow.
