Share of voice

Of the mentions of every brand AI answers name, the part that is yours.

Share of voice is your part of the conversation: of all mentions of the brands AI answers name — yours, your competitors' and every other business — how many are yours.

Formula

share of voice = your mentions ÷ mentions of all brands named × 100

Each brand counts once per answer. "All brands" is every business the answers name, except the ones you marked Ignored on the Competitors page.

Example

Out of 40 answers:

Brand Answers that name it
Your brand 14
Competitor A (direct) 20
Business B (no relation) 6
Directory C (ignored) 10
14 ÷ (14 + 20 + 6) × 100 = 35%

Directory C is left out: ignored brands take no share.

What counts and what doesn't

Counts Doesn't count
Your brand and its sub-brands (together, as a single brand) Brands marked "Ignored"
Every other business an answer names — direct or with no relation A second mention of the same brand in the same answer

How to read it

  • Share of voice does not depend on how many competitors you mark direct: a business counts as soon as an answer names it. Marking one direct only moves it from "others" to "competitors" in the split below.
  • Ignoring a brand that is not a competitor (a directory, a marketplace, a business from another field) raises your share, for past periods too.
  • It differs from visibility: visibility compares you with the answers, share of voice compares you with the other brands named.

Change of method

Until October 2026, only you and your direct competitors were counted. Since then, every business an answer names is counted, and answers from the 90 days before the change were re-read the same way. Comparing with a period that starts before that date would compare two different methods, so:

  • next to the number, the change is not shown and the hint says from which date every business is counted;
  • on the Brand visibility over time chart, a dashed line marks that date. Competitor lines can step up there without the answers having changed.

Where it appears

  • Dashboard — the big number and the change.
  • Dashboard → Share of voice by ownership — you, your direct competitors and "others": every other business the answers name, except ignored ones.
  • Dashboard → Competitor analysis — the Share of voice column, for each tracked brand.
