Metrics
Used as source
The percentage of AI answers that cite at least one page from your site.
"Used as source" is the percentage of AI answers that cite at least one page from your site.
Formula
used as source = answers that cite your site ÷ answers × 100
An answer counts once, however many of your pages it cites.
Example
Out of 40 answers, 6 have at least one link to your site:
6 ÷ 40 × 100 = 15%
What counts and what doesn't
| Counts | Doesn't count |
|---|---|
Links to your domain, with or without www |
Links to other sites that talk about you, and your subdomains (blog.site.ro) |
| Empty answers from Google AI Overview (they did not cite you) | Failed runs |
How to read it
- You can be named without being cited (the model knows you, but takes its information from elsewhere) and cited without being named (your page is used as a source for a topic). Comparing with visibility shows which of the two is missing.
- Don't confuse it with your share of citations, which counts links, not answers.
- The Missing sources page shows, prompt by prompt, where competitors are cited and you are not.
Where it appears
- Dashboard — the big number and the "Source score over time" chart.
- Workspace dashboard (all brands) — on each brand's card.
