AI traffic

AI traffic share

What part of the site's traffic comes from AI crawlers and from people sent by assistants.

The AI traffic share is the part of the site's page views made by AI crawlers and by people arriving from assistants.

Formula

AI traffic share = (AI crawler hits + people from AI) ÷ the site's daily totals, summed over the period × 100
  • On top: crawler hits from all three purposes and people from AI.
  • Below: the daily total sent by the integration — page views by people plus AI crawler hits. Googlebot, SEO tools, monitors and other scripts are left out.

The result never goes above 100%. The change next to it is in percentage points (pp) against the previous period.

Example

In the last 28 days the site reported 40,000 page views in total. Verified AI crawlers made 1,600 hits and assistants sent 400 people:

(1,600 + 400) ÷ 40,000 × 100 = 5.0%

If the share was 4.2% in the 28 days before, the number shows +0.8 pp.

What counts and what doesn't

Counts Doesn't count
Days for which the site sent a total Days without a total (the site was disconnected) — but their hits still count on top
Unverifiable crawlers, only with "Include unverifiable" Googlebot, Bingbot and other non-AI bots, anywhere

"—" shows when the site sent no daily total in the period: with the JavaScript beacon alone there is no denominator.

Where the daily total comes from

Each integration counts the day's page views (a UTC day) and sends us the running total several times a day; we keep the highest value received, so a resend doubles nothing.

  • WordPress — people are counted by a one-line script in the page footer, so pages served from cache count too; AI crawlers by PHP.
  • Laravel, OpenCart, PHP — PHP counts every page view. Pages served by a cache in front of PHP are missing, so the share can read higher than it is.
  • Laravel on several servers — each server keeps its own total and only one is kept, so the share reads higher.

How to read it

  • A small share is normal: on most sites people make most of the traffic.
  • On a low-traffic site a few hits move the share a lot. Look at the absolute numbers too.
  • If the integration stopped for a few days, hits before and after remain but the totals are missing — the share for that period reads higher.

Where it appears

  • AI traffic → Overview — the last number in the top row.
